Review: ManMadeCo. Hatchet

Manmadeco Hatchet 2.jpeg

I had a terrible hatchet that I purchased before a camping trip. You may know the one. A black and orange hatchet bearing the name of a celebrity survivalist. Well after one camping trip of splitting wood, let’s just say the chipped edge resembled my tablesaw blade.

I brought that hatchet with me to a house rented for a vacation. My goal was to find some treasure in the firewood pile and work on some hatchet skills.

It was then I realized the value of a sharp blade. My old chipped hatchet was more of a hammer. Terrible.

I scoured the internet researching hatchets. So many sizes, shapes, and styles. It was overwhelming.

I decided to just order one. No matter what, it had to be better than what I was working with.

I wanted a good hatchet for Carving. After some experience Carving spoons and cigar ashtrays, I knew a sharp blade and a sturdy handle was what I required.

I knew the value of supporting someone who creates items by hand. Scouring the internet and social media for such a maker with fair prices, I found ManMadeCo.

I grabbed an oak branch and took a couple of slices. Very nice. Proceeding to rough out a spoon, a smile appeared on my face. The grip was good, and the handle felt right at home in my hand. The paint not only added rustic character, but also, a grippy surface.

The blade was solid and sharp. Despite hacking away at the hard oak, this hatchet held its edge. In fact, I din’t recall even seeing a mark made on the blade. Nothing like a brand new quality blade to slice and shave branches into spoons.

OH I almost forgot!

This hatchet came with a leather protective sheath. It is very well made. The snaps are strong and firmly secured. The leather seems of good quality. I added a little sugartree sap to the leather and it looked gorgeous.

Now this review is not sponsored. ManMadeCo has no idea I am writing this. I just wanted to share my experience purchasing a handforged carving hatchet from the internet.

ManMadeCo has far exceeded my expectations. He has crafted a solid, sharp, well balanced hatchet that is gorgeous to look at and hold.

If your looking for top notch craftsmanship, look them up. You won’t be disappointed.
